Major and Minor Scale Degrees

Each scale has 7 notes or scale degrees (steps). Most children learn the phrase do re mi fa sol la ti do. This corresponds to the step intervals WWHWWWH of the major scale (remember that minor scales have the steps WHWWHWW).

Exception: Pentatonic scales have only 5 notes per octave.
