The first pattern of each shape has the notes of the scale, the second has the fingering. Circled is the root note of the key. These shapes are all in the key of A, but you can easily shift the pattern to play all keys. To play in a different key, slide the root note up or down to the desired key (example: down 2 frets = Key of G), bringing the entire scale up or down with the root.
